Our Story
The Maine Sigma Chi House Reacquisition Team has been building for years, following the UMaine System’s 2014 Sightlines Report, which determined our house to be unfit for official university business use. It was at this time that we sought the services of a well-respected New England-based fundraising-consulting firm to perform a Feasibility & Planning Study. This study helped us identify potential donors and their levels of interest, which were favorable.
The University gave us a purchase price in the spring, and they were anxious to have the building occupied before winter. Given the very short timeframe, and without a lead donor, a capital campaign was not feasible. We investigated a lease-to-buy agreement for the fall, but didn’t have the time to move forward.
So we continued building our network, planning events, and working to rebuild that long-lost “Rho Rho Culture” so many of us enjoyed in college. Without a house, our active members know very little about our old traditions, and what life is like with a house on campus.
Today, our team is built upon the work of several different committees. These include Communications, Legal, Tax & Financial, Construction & Engineering, and most importantly, a dedicated team of local alums who serve as advisors and mentors to our youngest brothers in Orono.
These committees are composed of many talented, successful, forward-thinking, and dedicated Rho Rho alumni. Each of them is grateful for their individual collegiate experience at Sigma Chi, and is fully committed to sharing that gratitude with a new generation of brothers.
There has never been a more exciting time for Rho Rho Alumni to be involved, and though we’ve been at this a while, we’re just getting started in showcasing our leadership and mentorship capabilities.
